Welcome to cuenca.de. The spanish term "cuenca" can be translated as (sedimentary) basin. Sedimentary basins are all those areas in which sediments can accumulate to considerable thickness and be preserved for long geological time periods. Cuenca.de intends to give an overview of the sedimentary basin evolution. The Intraandine Puna Basins of Northwestern Argentina. Most of the conclusions are based on own observations combined with data from selected published literature. . |
At the moment the database is being build up and parts of this site are not available yet. So far a detailed overview of the geological evolution of the Salar de Antofalla area in the southernmost part of the Central Andean Argentine Puna plateau as an example for an intraandine basin is presented here. The evolution of the Salar de Antofalla was investigated between 1995 and 2000 of a group of geoscientists form the Free University of Berlin, Germany. The study was performed within the Colloborative Research Center SFB 267 funded by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). Results of the study can be seen in the www.antofalla.info. |
